2012-08 (Aug)-09: Observed this morning (9am) in the Weeki Wachee River. Conducting a checkout dive at Hospital Hole when I notice a form that I haven't seen since my days at UF Fisheries. As far as I know this is one of the first documented sitings of a gulf sturgeon in the Weeki Wachee River about 2 miles upriver from the estuary. Approximately 4ft in length. Occupying downstream side rim of Hospital Hole. In 4ft brackish water (@75*F per my dive computer) sandy bottom. Outgoing tide. Map of sighting: http://goo.gl/maps/A71pP |
